Who Is This Breathing Being?
Becoming very intimate with ourselves is a powerful practice, and when we do so, when we love ourselves, we can learn to protect ourselves in the midst of these tumultuous times.

[0:01] Let's practice.
[0:31] Taking our seat. Arranging our body, our legs, our feet, our hips. Our lower back, spine, the curve. And this upright, uplifted, reaching toward the heaven. And also relaxed, our shoulders back, our hands in a resting position. Our neck straight with chin tucked. Allowing the breath to flow easily. Our tongue could be on the roof of the mouth, behind our teeth. The mouth slightly open. The eyes could be open or closed if they're open. Gazing softly in front of us. Slightly downward pointed.
[2:35] We could check in with our body. The texture, the feelings. What is present as we sit and practice. And just welcoming it. Being with it, whatever is there. Whatever little tightness is. Pain. Or joy that is present in our body. Opening to it. And in the same way, we can check in with our mind. Just feeling the texture becoming familiar with what we're working with. Are we more tight or more spacious as we sit? Not needing to do anything with that. Just noticing it. Welcoming it. Being with it.
[4:48] Being conscious of why we practice. Whom do we practice for? Ourselves and who else? And holding that intention in our heart with this genuine, open heart of a warrior.
[5:53] And bringing our attention to the experience of the body breathing.
[6:16] Using this sharp mindfulness. Slowing down to this natural pace of the body breathing. That same pace of a gentle stroll through the forest. Where we can notice things. When we speed by. We don't see very much.
[7:33] So here we're slowing down. And synchronizing our mind with our body. And this unfolding experience. Of a single breath. And another single breath. Breathing out. Just noticing this experience of breathing. Paying it attention. Staying with this single breath. As we breathe out. And noticing the breath. Mixing with space. And staying with that experience. Allowing our attention. Our awareness. To mix with space. At the end of each breath. And we can allow the in-breath to happen on its own. While we rest. In space. And then again. The experience of breathing out. And mixing with space.
[12:06] Staying with each single breath, one at a time. Noticing that there is only one breath happening.
[13:21] And maybe there is a feeling of feeling of feeling. Coming home to ourselves as we slow down. Enough to notice and become familiar with ourselves. And friendly and gentle and loving to ourselves. Being with this being who is breathing one breath at a time. Who is this breathing being?
[14:39] This being that is much bigger than just our mind.
[15:09] And we stay with this breathing being. Taking one breath.
[16:09] In the midst of the infinite stories on media, the many clamourings for attention, very real pain and suffering. Can we, in the midst of this, stay with this breathing being? Bring our love, our gentleness, our friendliness. Bring it all to this breathing being. Staying with this one breath. Breathing out. Being very intimate with this breathing being. And caretaking. Taking care of this breathing being. Protecting. Nurturing. Choices. About what we take in. Through our boundaries. What we take in from media. As nutrition. As joyful experiences. The many ways we take in. Consciously caretaking this breathing being. So that we. Sleep. Rest. Recharge. So that we have. The energy. To help. And to thrive.
[20:13] Staying with. Each breath. This breathing being. Breathing out. And mixing with space. Resting. Breathing out. Mixing with space. Resting.
