Melting Our Cocoon
We build our thoughts, judgements, fears, beliefs around us into a cocoon made up of threads of thoughts, spun into a protective shell. Sitting, following the breath, noticing these thoughts, and allowing them to be instead of feeding them and further building our cocoon is the way to a new kind of experience of life, where we directly contact the world rather than only seeing through our cocoon.

[0:00] Let's practice.
[0:41] Choosing to bring our body to stillness. Which allows, affords us, this greater contrast so that we can notice more about what's going in our body and in our mind. So much of which is unconscious all the time. Stillness allows us, brings us a sort of, a bit of light to the situation.
[2:02] Placing our breath, placing our mind with our breath, so that as we breathe, we know I am breathing.
[3:08] Staying with the breath as we breathe out, we can be conscious, breathing out.
[3:55] Consciously breathing out.
[4:23] And we may find at the end. Some rest, some gap. Where we can expand into spaces.
[6:13] With the nature of our mind. And we may begin to see that we have built a cocoon around us. A cocoon made up of all these thoughts and beliefs and judgments as a protection. And each time we feed these thoughts and beliefs with energy, repeating them, we build a little more on this cocoon. Like threads wrapping around us, layer after layer after layer.
[8:09] As we sit and become familiar. With our mind. And as we start paying attention to space. We start to see a little more. This cocoon. How claustrophobic it is. It might keep us safe sometimes.
[9:40] Breathing out.
[10:22] Sitting, following our breath. Allows us to start to see the threads of thought and how they add to this cocoon that we spin around us.
[11:21] Our fears, our insecurities, about ourselves, about the world, about interacting with other people.
[12:04] Still there, we build our cocoon.
[13:05] They become more like threads that float through the air, rather than layering on top of each other, building this thick cocoon. And we can begin to poke some holes through. And let some light, some space in. Breathing out. Aware that we are breathing out. Rest in space. Allowing a thought to occur. We can touch it. We could say, ah look, there's that thread. The thread of anxiety. The thread of planning. The thread of fear. The thread of judgment. Whatever it may be. We can get to know it a little. And then we can let it be. And let it dissipate, rather than adding to the layer of cocoon.
[15:47] Breathing. Being aware of breathing. Resting in space. Those little holes. Noticing the areas of space. Develop in our cocoon. I'm going to pay these attention. Ah, there's space. Let's hang out in space for a while.
[17:26] And again, when thought occurs, as it always will, thanks thought. I don't really need to keep thinking this thought right now. I can let it be.
[18:06] Bringing our attention back. Breathing out. Aware that we're breathing out.
[18:58] Breathing out. Good is...
